Environmental Expert

Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager, the Environmental Expert will undertake the following tasks:1. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA):o Conduct detailed assessments of potential social and environmental impacts related to water sourcing, abattoir construction, livestock markets, and road infrastructure projects.o Develop mitigation measures to address identified impacts and ensure adherence to regulatory and donor requirements.2. Implementation of Safeguards:o Establish and oversee implementation of environmental and social safeguards in line with IGAD and KfW standards.o Monitor compliance with Ethiopian environmental regulations and standards in collaboration with regional government bodies.3. Community Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination:o Facilitate meaningful engagement with communities, local authorities, and key stakeholders in the Moyale area.o Promote social inclusion, with a focus on vulnerable groups including refugees, migrants, and local youth.4. Training and Capacity Building:o Provide training to project staff, contractors, and community representatives on environmental and social safeguard protocols.o Design and implement capacity-building initiatives for sustainable community engagement and environmental awareness.5. Monitoring and Reporting:o Develop and implement an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and monitor its execution.o Prepare and submit regular progress reports, highlighting compliance status and addressing any challenges.6. Risk Management:o Identify and manage potential risks, conflicts, or impacts related to social dynamics, environmental degradation, and project-induced migration or displacement.o Establish grievance mechanisms to address community concerns promptly and transparently.
